Geely - Stalling after a strong 1H, though new launch "Vision" shows promise
- Published 02 Dec 2010
Results from our recent survey show that Geely (0175:HKG) is trailing indigenous brands such as the unlisted Chery in lower tier cities and, at the other end of the spectrum, finds it is tough to compete with foreign joint venture brands in first tier markets.
Geely was the least popular car after Kia, which ranked last, with only 1.41% of surveyed respondents planning to buy a car saying they would definitely purchase a Geely in the next 12 months. Although the brand's performance improved slightly in third tier cities - where 2.36% said they planned to buy the brand - it still ranked 12th, just one place above SAIC's unpopular Roewe brand. What's more, Geely was most popular with the less brand conscious over 40s age group and with those earning under Rmb 50,000 per year, the category showing the lowest car demand.
