Walmart's woes in China this week (see Best of Chinese Commentators) go to show that even for a market leader, China's supermarket operating landscape is certainly a challenging one. And a recent flurry of listings has only added to the mix as newly capitalised domestic retailers embark on the race for scale or differentiation to remain in the black.
