Spreadtrum – chip maker rides the 3G wave

Supplying chipsets for China’s successful homegrown TD-SCDMA technology is powering sales growth and Spreadtrum has also moved into the smartphone market.

The ambitions of Spreadtrum Communications (SPRD:Nasdaq), a mobile chip maker and solutions provider, for a bigger share of China’s 3G and 2G markets look credible. With the successful launch of Samsung’s (005930:SEO) popular Galaxy S2 model in 3Q11, the company expects to further expand its footprint in the TD-SCDMA segment, with plans to introduce two more smartphone chips in 4Q11.
