Bona Film – picking the big hitters
- Published 15 Dec 2011
Success in selecting box-office hits to distribute this year has helped the film company turn a profit in the first nine months of 2011.
Bona's (BONA:Nasdaq) ability to pick big hitters has helped turn a profit by doubling revenues so far this year. Fast expansion into cinema chains is also helping the company to diversify and hence stabilise its revenue stream. Bona is scheduled to launch 'Flying Swords of Dragon Gate', a domestic fiction film directed by Tsui Hark in 2D and 3D, in 4Q11 which it hopes will be a strong revenue driver. The company is forecasting full-year net income of $18m (Rmb115m, £12m, €14m), up from a net loss of $4.2m in 2010, helped by robust box-office sales in 4Q11, as well as consolidating results from Bona Starlight, the cinema chain acquired in July 2011.
