To make a name, you have to be early
- Published 11 Jun 2009
In a new move, China is looking to leapfrog the US and other western nations to become the world's leading harvester of renewable energy by 2020.
The latest edition of New Weekly, a magazine on sale on the streets of Beijing, has a big red cover and the title 'How does China think?' Inside is a collection of nearly 100 pithy aphorisms, each summarising a prevalent school of thought, idea or prejudice. It is an entertaining and surprising read. Next to Deng Xiaoping's canonised tenet "Development is the core truth" is a more contemporary attitude among unmarried women; "getting real estate is more reliable than finding a man". Others are more predictable; "The 21st century is China's century" and "For a gentleman exacting revenge, waiting 10 years isn't too long."
