Taiwan optimism peaked?
- Published 03 Sep 2009
Taiwan funds have been posting outflows for seven out of the last 10 weeks.
The investor optimism that attended earlier signs of Taiwan's economic rapprochement with mainland China looks to have peaked. Taiwan funds have posted outflows for seven out of the last 10 weeks - with investors pulling out $627m (Rmb 4.3bn, €441m, £388m) in the last three weeks alone (Chart 3.4). The timeline for laying concrete cross-straits agreements has slipped, along with hope that Taiwan could ride on the coat-tails of China's economic success, said EPFR senior analyst Cameron Brandt.
