China's trade gets Asean lift

  • Published 11 Dec 2009

While China's total exports fell 1.2% year on year in November, exports to Asean surged 20.78%.

Growing trade with the Asean region and several "newly rising" economies helped propel China's total trade value in November to its first year on year increase in 12 months, rising 9.8% to stand at US$208.2bn. We reaffirm our call (CC Nov 26 2009 Big Call) that trade with the 10 Asian member countries of Asean, as well as with Brazil, Africa and India, will increasingly offset weakness in trade with the US, Europe and Japan.
