Yili: returning to health
- Published 26 Nov 2009
Consumers are once again getting a taste for Yili's dairy products following its involvement in last year's contaminated milk scandal.
Background:Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group (600887:SHA), was once China's second biggest dairy company after Mengniu until it was implicated in last year's melamine milk scandal, which brought it a loss of Rmb 1.69bn ($247bn, €166bn, £150bn) in 2008. Its dairy products are diversified, but include liquid milk, yoghurt, ice cream, and milk powder. It owns over 800 livestock farms as well as one dairy research centre. Following the demise of infant milk powder maker Sanlu Group, Yili is now thought to be the largest domestic producer of milk powder.
