Restaurants: a healthy appetite

With growing amounts of venture capital being directed at China's chain restaurants, the sector is becoming an increasingly attractive investment theme.

China's catering industry found itself in a relative sweet spot this year. Total revenues from the industry, which includes restaurants and hotel dining, grew 18.1% to reach Rmb 851.4bn ($124.6bn, €83.7bn, £76bn) in the first half. And China's robust appetite for out-of-home dining is expected to boost the industry by 25% each year for the next three years, according to a forecast by the China Hotel Association.
