The online games operator is struggling to attract new paying account holders.
Background:Changyou (CYOU:Nasdaq) is web portal Sohu's (SOHU:Nasdaq) online games spin-off, which listed in March last year raising $120m (Rmb 820m, €99m, £82.5m). The company's flagship game Tian Long Ba Bu (TLBB) is a 2.5-dimensional massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) designed in-house and launched back in 2007. The game's second series came out in the first quarter of this year. Changyou recently drew on a Taiwanese games developer to put together its first 3D martial arts themed MMORPG, Zhong Hua Ying Xiong, which started beta testing on May 20. It is also due to launch its second in-house developed game Duke of Mount Deer this year. Currently, the game is in the trial stage.
