The construction of a 'smart' power grid for China is a long-term plan with big implications for power companies and investors.
China to accelerate 'smart grid' constructionChina is set to accelerate the construction of a 'smart grid' power network that would reduce wasted electricity, help balance supply and demand and be able to absorb power from intermittent sources such as wind and solar. 'Smart' technology includes ultra high voltage (UHV) cables, which reduce transmission losses, and smart meters, which allow consumers greater control over their electricity consumption, thereby allowing greater efficiency.
