Beijing lauches its most sweeping reform to date in yet another attempt to streamline the nation's coal industry.
Private mine owners in China's northern Shanxi province have been blamed for the province's dire safety track record, prompting Beijing to launch a radical reform forcing state miners to acquire all these private counterparts. According to targets, Shanxi was due to have 1,000 coal mines, down from 2,840 mines by September-end, as private miners were forced to retreat from the industry.
