Mainland jewellery and watch markets sparkle

China's love affair with diamonds and watches is only in its infancy. Though the market is somewhat complex, several opportunities for investors exist both in the mainland and Hong Kong.
The market for high-end watch and jewellery sales in China this year is not clear cut. While mainland sales are looking more robust and online diamond retailers such as 9diamond.com, Kela.cn, Zbird.com and 51diamond.com are all set to benefit from China's new appetite for diamonds; Hong Kong-based jewellers say that, thanks to swine flu, they have suffered a reduction in mainland shoppers.
