Mothercare testing the water in China

The UK baby products retailer plans to open a further 10 of its joint venture stores in China this year, up from its current eight.
Background:The UK's Mothercare (MTC:LSE) specialises in products for mothers-to-be and infants up to age six through its brands Mothercare and Early Learning Centre. The company operates in China through Mothercare-Goodbaby China Retail, a joint venture set up in 2007, in which Mothercare has a 30% stake. There are currently eight of the joint-venture stores in China located in and around Beijing and Shanghai. In addition to its stores in China and the UK, the company has 709 overseas stores in 50 countries. International online stores will be launched this year.
