Zhejiang Supor: The French Connection
- Published 06 May 2010
The Chinese cookware manufacturer is benefitting from knowledge transfer and robust overseas orders thanks to its French majority stakeholder.
Background:Zhejiang Supor Co (002032:SZ) is a major Chinese cookware manufacturer with products ranging from frying pans to pressure cookers. The company operates under the Supor brand and holds around a 25% share of the cookware market. France's home appliance company Groupe SEB (SK:PAR), which owns brands such as Tefal and Moulinex, holds a majority stake in Supor following an acquisition back in 2007. The deal was completed after a lengthy approval process conducted by the Ministry of Commerce on concerns by competitors that the tie-up might create a monopoly. Supor operates as an OEM manufacturer for Groupe SEB but increasingly provides its branded products to the group. The company has several production bases across China and one in Vietnam.
