Telecoms: Divergent fortunes

China's telecoms carriers are set for mixed blessings with the rise of 3G, broadband and services such as Internet Protocol TV.
This year and 2010 represent both a coming of age and a time of great change for China's world-beating telecoms industry. At the end of March this year, the country passed an impressive milestone; its phone user base exceeded 1bn for the first time, with 670m mobile users and 335m fixed line subscribers. But there is no time for a breather.
