Noah appears under pressure from a number of fronts. Its electronic educational devices, for instance, are at risk of being rendered obsolete by increasingly smart mobile phones.

BackgroundNoah Education Holdings (NYSE:NED) is a supplier of electronic educational devices for students in China. It also provides children's English teaching services through its brand Little New Star, which it acquired in July last year. Earlier this month, Noah Education agreed to use Rmb 126m ($18.5m, €13.7m, £12.3m) of its cash reserves to acquire 70% of Shenzhen Wentai Education Industry Development – a provider of infant, primary and secondary level education services. It is also in the process of making a strategic investment in the US's Franklin Electronic Publishers in the hope of increasing the sale of original design manufactured (ODM) products to the company.
