The big picture
- Published 15 Oct 2009
A look at China's big structural transformations provides optimism in spite of rising stock market values.
As China paused last week for its 60th anniversary celebrations, so we at China Confidential paused also to take stock, look at the big picture and assess the outlook for some of our key calls. First, the big picture: with stock valuations climbing skyward, investors are increasingly concerned over whether China can, over the longer term, deliver growth to justify rising multiples in the stock market. Thus, in this issue we focus on why it is that we think China should be re-rated (see Big Call), and particularly why it is no longer adequate to consider it an 'emerging' market or 'developing' nation – if labels such as these imply a subsidiary role in global affairs.
