China ushers in the Year of the Golden Tiger on Sunday, February 14.
The last Golden Tiger year – 1950 – was full of momentous events, not all of them auspicious. China began its economic reconstruction. But North Korean leader Kim Il-sung crossed the 38th parallel into South Korea, the US put its 7th fleet in the Taiwan Straits and the People's Liberation Army marched into Tibet.
