China's economic indicators
- Published 15 Oct 2009
What statistics are economists studying as indicators of a sustained recovery?
Yin Zhe, chief strategist at ABN Amro TEDA Fund Management, said he was primarily concerned with credit data such as money supply and loan growth. China's economy is now heavily dependent on a continued loose monetary policy so any clear contraction in money supply could administer shocks to the real economy. The government may loosen credit conditions again in Q4 as recent tightening has dampened sentiment somewhat. Third quarter company performance data will also be important - strong Q3 profit data will be a good indicator of a robust overall picture.
