Rural community credit ratings

Rural financial institutions are building personal credit records and using community credit guarantee schemes to securitise debt, helping to reshape rural lending.

The biggest issue that rural lenders face is security. Ownership certification is not well developed, frustrating the process of collateralising loans. However, a new trend, visible in many rural areas, is underway: rural financial institutions are building personal credit records and using community credit guarantee schemes to securitise debt. Rural Credit Co-operatives (RCCs), county and township-level governments, microcredit companies (MCCs) and township banks have all started to keep credit records on institutional and personal borrowers.
