As Dickens might have said, “It was not exactly the best of times, but far from the worst of times.” To many analysts' surprise, China’s retail sector remains relatively buoyant. Many waited expectantly for retail spending to hit a wall – after the January sales; then after the Chinese New Year holidays – but things have carried on carrying on.
