The importance placed on July's Strategic and Economic Dialogue between the two nations raises a sense of optimism that the US and China may be able to make progress on key issues such as climate change.
The Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) between the US and China, which took place in Washington on July 27-28, heralded a new phase in the world's most important bilateral relationship. It also subtly reconfigured the world order.
