China grain yield reached 571.2m tonnes in 2011, thanks to the better weather, increased rate of land transfer and government subsidy policies. The fast increase of maize yield may slow fast-increasing imports and lower maize prices in 2012. Farmers' income however is unlikely to be lifted much by the yield boost due to higher input costs.
