China’s Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) is set to hit a high for 2010 of around 4% in October, year on year, and has continued to be strong in November, statistics suggest. We think (CC Nov 4th Editor’s View) that the persistent strength of inflationary pressures – which may well be understated by official statistics – will prompt Beijing to move to tighten its “moderately loose” monetary policy and implement measures to mop up liquidity in coming weeks and months.
